Carl David Smith of Moncton passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 in The Moncton Hospital. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Clythie (McGrath) Smith. Carl retired from The Moncton Times and Transcript following a career of over 34 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, tie flies and train dogs. Even after losing his eyesight, seven years ago, he enjoyed the occasional fishing trip. He is survived by his sons, Tim Smith and Jeff Smith; sisters Judy Currie, Jean Ivany and Linda Smith; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Carl will also be sadly missed by his many friends at Villa Heritage, Moncton. A thank you goes out to his family and to his friends at Villa Heritage. A special thank you to Ferne who took great care of Carl following the loss of his eyesight. In respecting his wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007). In lieu of flowers, donations in Carl’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada.
